BOW VALLEY QUIKIES

Devonian Properties Nancy Greene Ski League

Program Outline 2010/2011

The Bow Valley Quikies (BVQ) offers a ski development program for young children with an emphasis on skill acquisition and igniting the spirit of the sport through friendly competition. This framework is established by Alpine Canada Alpin’s AIM 2 WIN document; which identifies key phases for long term skier development. The programs follow a progression of tasks that match the motor skill development of Quikies from age four to ten this phase is referred to as “skier essentials”. Children ski within groups based on skill level and age and work with a designated coach over the course of a season. The children participate in ski races at Norquay and other local ski hills depending on the child’s program and the race calendar. The Q-33 and Q-55 participate in the Devonian Properties Nancy Greene Ski League events.

The Q-Intro (16 days on snow) identifies a series of skiing skills linked to the motor skill development of children four to five years of age.  The environment fosters a love for the sport through miles of snow play, friends and the enjoyment of friendly competition.

The next step in the program is Q-18 (18 days on snow) which will introduce the children to the Husky Snow Stars program; a seven-step program that guides children and coaches through a progression of skills. The goal for this program is for children to learn the basics of the sport through miles of skiing, friendly competition and to promote a life-long interest in the sport.

Q-33 (33 days on snow) provides skiers a comprehensive understanding of the Husky Snow Stars skill program by maximizing days on snow.

The final step, theQ-55 (55 days on snow), is designed with the main objective of the skiers becoming technically competent and to utilize their skills to explore a wide range of skiing activities from racing to free skiing environments. Following graduation from the Quikies programs, the athletes move onto the next level with the Banff Alpine Racers.

Athletes who wish to follow the sport as a kinder athlete move into the BAR program which continues to build on the AIM To WIN document.
